Boss impressed by captain's maturity
Before embarking on a summer holiday, boss Steve Davis revealed that he has only received a couple of inquiries in relation to his captain Luke Murphy, but says the club have received no concrete offers for our former Academy graduate. Davis remains hopeful that the 23-year-old will begin the season with us.
The market remains slow at the moment and Davis is concerned that any possible move for Murphy could yet occur in August, like it did when Aston Villa came in late for Ashley Westwood on deadline day.
Steve told crewealex.net: “I’ve only had one or two inquires about Murphy. That has been nothing major, just a couple of calls. We have not received any bids for him, nothing concrete has happened at all in regards to any of our players.
“It could be another late one with Murph, like it was with Westy when Aston Villa came in very late on deadline day. I’m sure something will happen because there were a number of clubs watching him last season, and he had a very good season.
“There has been nothing solid and all we can do is wait and see what happens. I’ve spoken with Luke and he knows that he has to stay focused. He has worked really hard in pre-season and I’ve just told him to keep himself fit and ready for the pre-season games.
“At the moment he is with us. He is our captain and he knows he has to be patient. Murph accepts that and knows what it expected of him. At the moment his focus is on pre-season with us.”
