Bakes pleased to get Macc full-back in after impressive season
Neil Baker, the club’s assistant manager, says the signing of defender Thierry Audel may have surprised the Crewe Alexandra’s fan base, but he insists that the management are being forward in their thinking by signing the former Macclesfield full-back.
Audel has signed a two-year deal with the Railwaymen and Baker says the Frenchman will certainly provide some stiff competition for places this coming season.
Baker told crewealex.net: “It may have come as a surprise to our supporters that we have signed another defender, but we are being forward in our thinking with them and looking ahead.
“I saw quite a lot of Macclesfield last season and he is a good defender. He is big, strong and competitive. We are planning ahead by getting him in because we have a few defenders entering the final year of their contract.
“Saying that, he is good enough to be challenging for a place. Those ahead of him will have to play well to keep him out that is for certain. Thierry will add some real competition and we are pleased to have him.”
