Ellington to take part in pre-season training in the hope of extending Alex stay

Nathan Ellington has returned to pre-season training with Crewe Alexandra in the hope that he can land himself a new contract. Ellington, who turns 32 on July 2nd, made eight appearances for Crewe last season but failed to find the net. He was playing catch-up with his fitness throughout that period though after being released by Ipswich Town.

Now after getting himself leaner and fitter in the closed season, the former Wigan and Watford striker aims to convince returning manager Steve Davis and his assistant Neil Baker that he is worth a new contract.

Baker told the club’s official web-site: “Nathan is back training with us and we will see. We haven’t offered or promised him anything. He had the option of coming back to do pre-season with us and then making a decision on that.

“Nothing will happen about that for at least 3 weeks, so if we are to offer him anything it would be more like the end of July or start of August. “
