Consistency Is The Key

Tootle targets regular place in Crewe side next season

Matt Tootle is hoping to better his performances from last season with eve more consistent displays in League One this time around. Tootle, 22, made 44 appearances for the club last season, scoring his second ever goal at senior level in a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient back in September. On blot on his season was the first red card of his career sustained for two bookable offences against Doncaster Rovers in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Now the versatile defender is looking to appear in close to 50 games and become even more consistent in his play.

Matt told crewealex.net: “I just want to be consistent, after I got injured last season I had a couple of months when I wasn't quite on it.

“That can happen to any player, but I want to make sure I keep churning out performances and play as many games as I can.

“I have got a preference for right back, but it's not that important to me. What I did find out towards the end of last season is how important it is to me to be in the team, it affected me a lot when I was in and out.

“Just getting in and staying in is priority so I need a good pre-season behind me.

Matt added: “It is a long season, I played 44 games last term, but you have to keep focussed all the way through.”
