French right-back becomes Crewe's second signing of the summer

Crewe Alexandra is delighted to announce the signing of the Macclesfield Town defender Thierry Audel. Following some impressive performances or the Silkmen during the second half of last season, the French born full-back has signed a two-year contract with an option of a third year.

Audel, 26, becomes Steve Davis’ second capture of the summer following the arrival of the Lincoln forward Vadaine Oliver earlier in the month.

The 6’2” powerful right-back began his career in his native country as a junior with his hometown club Nice and he later went on to play for FC Istres and Auxerre before moving to Italy and enjoying spells with Triestina, San Marino (on loan) and A.C. Pisa. He also had a short spell with Slovenian club MNK Izola before moving to Macclesfield in January 2013.

Audel, who has also operated as a centre-back during his career, made 20 appearances for our Cheshire East neighbours last season, scoring his only senior goal in a 2-1 win over Alferton back in February.

Audel will be given permission to return to his native France for a short period before re-joining his new team-mates for full pre-season training.
