Talks with Midfielder Break Down

Club disappointed after talks with southern based midfielder break down

The club's assistant manager Neil Baker has revealed that talks with a potential midfield target have broken down. In the wake of Luke Murphy's departure to Leeds United, the club had opened initial talks with the southern-based midfield player about the possibility of him joining Crewe this summer, but Baker says that communication has ceased and that he has 'other irons in the fire' as the club look to improve their midfield options heading into the new season.

Speaking from the club's training camp in Cornwall, Baker said of the unnamed player: "We had been in negotiations with a midfield player and we thought that was progressing well, but they now appear to have broken down. The player is a southern midfield player, who we pin-pointed as one who would have made a difference to us, especially with Luke moving to Leeds earlier in the week but it doesn't look as though that is going to progress now.

"We are disappointed that we have been unable to take that forward but we move on and we have a list of potential targets. There are plenty more irons in the fire and we have time on our side, as it is still early July."
