Davis says players have to stake their claim now
Steve Davis has informed his squad that they are now playing for places in his starting XI for the opening game of the season against Rotherham United on 3rd August. Davis says that the initial warm up friendlies are designed to get the players on the ball and work on their overall fitness but now with a fortnight to go before the big kick-off, Davis says that places are up for grabs.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Initially the friendly games are all about the players improving their fitness levels but now it is about staking their claim for a place.
“There are still places are for grabs and those who are consistent in their performances who will start the season. The competition is good and the players are working hard. I’m pleased with my squad and haven’t ruled out bringing one or two more in.
“The players know they have to earn those places and I have different options and the team may change between now and the start of the season. That can happen.”
