Murph's Impossible Replacement

Club step up search for captain's 'replacement'

Following the expected departure of the club captain Luke Murphy, Steve Davis and his assistant Neil Baker have activated their contingency plan to find a suitable ‘replacement’.

The Alex boss has gone on record to suggest that replacing the Leeds bound midfielder will be tough, but that the club will be doing their best to bring another one in to supplement the loss.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Everyone is delighted for Luke. He has joined a great club and has the chance to make that step up.

“He is also a great lad and deserves his move after the service he has given us. He has been outstanding for me and was our captain and player of the year. He made us tick in games and that is going to be difficult to replace.

“We are pleased for him but it is obviously a loss to the team because we cannot go out and find another Luke Murphy.

“It is difficult because when Westy left for Aston Villa we still have Murph, but if was to go, we don’t have a ready-made replacement waiting in the wings.

“What we will do is work hard to bring another one in. We will try and bring one in with similar attributes or that would allow us to play a different way.”
