Boss Steve Davis says it will be another proud day if captain is to move on
Steve Davis says that when our captain Luke Murphy finally does move on this summer then he would go with our blessing after helping us to promotion into League One and to success in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Murphy, 23, is the subject of interest from three clubs and any decision on his future will be down to him, but Davis, who is resigned to losing his influential midfielder says that if does happen it should be regarded as another proud day in the club’s history.
Steve told crewealex.net: “We cannot kid ourselves and we never have at Crewe for when the time is right for a player to move on then they go with our blessing. Our young players know, especially the ones that have come through the Academy that we wouldn’t stand in their way when it comes to the right career move.
“It was the same with Westy (Ashley Westwood) and Nick (Powell) last summer. When Luke does go then it will be another proud day for us as a Football Club because it would be another million-pound plus player leaving us. It would be a proud moment for everyone connected with the club.
He added: “We have produced three top players in a year and I don’t think many, if any, lower league clubs would be able to match that. Luke has given us great service and was hugely influential last season. The time is right for him to go, where that is is entirely up to him.”
