Boss hopeful that Vadaine Oliver will be fit to face Rotherham this weekend
Alex boss Steve Davis is hopeful of having virtually a full strength squad to choose from ahead of this weekend’s opening game of the season against Rotherham United.
Crewe are just waiting on new striker Vadaine Oliver, Mathias Pogba (who injured his knee last night) and Billy Waters to declare themselves fit for selection to have a full complement to choose from for the visit of Steve Evans’ Millers.
Vadaine Oliver has been struggling with a groin injury since scoring that emphatic second half hat-trick against our near neighbours Nantwich Town. Young Billy Waters is also out with a slight knee injury, but both are making good progress. Crewe are hopeful that Pogba has avoided ligament damage after a collision with Manchester United defender Scott Wootton.
“The players have worked hard, so we gave them Sunday off. They needed that break after being in every day. Steve told crewealex.net:
“We are just waiting on Vadaine and Billy. They are both making good progress and could be available this week. If they do make it and we don’t pick up any fresh injury concerns tonight then we would have a full squad to choose from.
The boss added: “That is what you want as a manager, to get through pre-season with no major injuries. You just hope you get through the games with no major injuries.”
