Davis On United Loss

Alex boss Steve Davis on a pre-season defeat to Manchester United XI

Following a 2-0 defeat by a Manchester United XI, Alex boss Steve Davis admitted he was glad to be reaching the end of pre-season. A brace by United winger Nani was enough to win the game for the visitors, but Davis was satisfied with the performance of his side.

Speaking to crewealex.net after the game Davis revealed that Mathias Pogba is a doubt for the first-game of the season after going off with a knee injury in the first-half, and admitted that he is yet to finalise his side for the opening game.

Steve told crewealex.net: “It was a game played at a lower intensity then the game on Friday against Villa but they still have some players that could hurt and did hurt us.  I planned to rotate the side at half-time and we have given majority of lads 45 minutes of hard work.

“There are still places to play for in the team against Rotherham on Saturday and the boys had their chance tonight. At this stage we are just looking to get through the games and unfortunately haven’t done that tonight. We will assess how Pogs is in the morning. He is iced up at the minute so we will have to see how he is in the morning.

“Now it is a question of looking at what Rotherham are going to do and then decide what we are going to. Nearly everyone has managed to get through the pre-season and between now and Saturday we will do some fitness work in preparation for the big game.”
