Davis keeping his options open over a new skipper.
Boss Steve Davis has admitted he is still unsure of who will be the Crewe Alexandra captain next term. Following the departure of Luke Murphy to Leeds United earlier this summer, the club are currently without a captain and Davis says he is still yet to make a decision.
Midfielder Abdul Osman was a regular skipper for the Alex in Murphy’s absence last term, with Harry Davis also getting the armband towards the end of the campaign. Steve Phillips and Adam Dugdale have also captained the Alex in the past while Matt Tootle and Kelvin Mellor have both captained the Alex during pre-season so far.
Davis says he is keeping his options open as to who will lead the Alex out against Rotherham on August 3rd.
The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “I've got to decide on a captain but I'll take my time on that. I think a captain has to be somebody who is going to play week in and week out.
“I'm not sure we have that player like Luke who is going to be a permanent fixture in the team, but that might change.“
