Local Crewe company show support for Phillips charity work
The Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Steve Phillips got on his bike to pick up a donation from a local business that has been following his fundraising challenge to raise £20,000 for two charities.
The sizable donation from club stand sponsor Absolute Recruitment was waiting for Steve Phillips when he got back from his London to Paris bike ride earlier this month.
Steve, former Alex and England footballer Geoff Thomas, Life on Mars actor Dean Andrews and 180 other riders made the 280-mile journey for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and Caudwell Children.
On his return, Steve posed for pictures with the company in front of the Absolute Recruitment stand at the Alexandra stadium.
“I’m very grateful for all the support I’ve received and the money this has raised for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and Caudwell Children,” said Steve.
“The London to Paris challenge was an incredible experience, riding with other people who were equally committed to raising money for charity, and donations like the one from Absolute Recruitment have helped me exceed our £20,000 target.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some incredible local people who can enjoy life-changing experiences and benefit from much-needed medical equipment as a result of the money raised.”
Steve set out to raise £20,000 through a series of events and challenges by 27th July and already looks on course to hit the £22,000 mark.
Dan Marshall from Absolute Recruitment was only too pleased to make a donation.
“As a result of our sponsorship last season, we got to know about Steve’s fundraising activities and were only too willing to help because he’s raising money for two very good causes,” said Dan.
