Steve: "Main Thing Was To Get Through"

Alex boss a happy man after Crewe make it to the Area JPT Final

Boss Steve Davis was a happy man after Crewe Alexandra made it in to the Area Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with an excellent 4-1 win over Bradford City at Gresty Road.

The Alex fell a goal down early on through Kyle Reid, but a Byron Moore strike just before the break and second half goals from Max Clayton, Brad Inman and Chuks Aneke set the Alex up with an Area Final against Coventry City.

Speaking after the game, Davis was delighted to be just two games away from a return to Wembley, but was still critical of his sides display: “The main thing is to win the game. We didn’t perform well, particularly in the first-half, but we got the win. We were better in the second-half, and especially in the last 10 minutes where we really warmed the crowd up.

“The substitutes were the right players at the right time for us today. Chuks came on and grabbed a goal and made a goal, while Max got a real important goal for us with a glancing header. They made a real big impact for us tonight.

“Byron got us going in the game though with his goal on half-time. He was our biggest threat throughout the game and was a real menace in the whole game.

“Tonight was real tough game for us and the scoreline has flattered us a little bit. You could see the confidence and momentum that they have gained from their cup-run.

“Coventry will be a good challenge now. We are looking forward to it but it doesn’t really matter who you play. We are excited about the opportunity, but I have told the players that the main thing for us now is the league, and the most important game for them is on Saturday.”
