Squad Have To Be Ready

Steve Davis prepares for busy period of fixtures coming up

With the cancellation of our home match with MK Dons on Saturday, Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says his squad numbers will be crucial in what is set to be a busy February.

February and now two eagerly anticipated matches against Coventry City in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy to go with our other league and Under-21 fixtures. thCrewe have a re-arranged home game with Bournemouth on 12

Steve has told crewealex.net that the players will all have a part to play, to keep the starting XI on their toes or to come in due to loss of form, suspensions or injuries.

Steve told crewealex.net: “The players know that they have to play well to retain their shirt. I have changed things and given players a second chance. I think the players understand that those who deserve to play are going to play.

“The competition for places is good and it is healthy to have players vying for places in the team. If they perform well they will stay in and all of them have a part to play because we have a lot of games coming up in February and anything can happen.

“Some of them may get a chance and they have to be ready. It is vital to any squad that players push each others on and I think we have that here. We had to bring a couple of players on to freshen things up against Bradford and they had the impact we wanted. It helped us win the game and everyone could see the benefit of having those players ready to come in and make a difference.”
