Boss says captain is relaxed and focussed despite speculation

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that transfer speculation regarding Luke Murphy has not affected the performances of his captain. Murphy is the latest Crewe player to be linked with a possible big move away from Crewe, but Steve has stressed that he has received no tentative enquires about any of his players.

Murphy has grown into his captain role and was arguably our most consistent performer of 2012. He played a major role in seeing the club promoted to League One and his displays have certainly led to media speculation regarding his immediate future.

Davis is keen for his captain to remain at Gresty Road and has praised his attitude.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Despite being linked with a possible move, Luke has not let it affect him in the slightest. He has remained totally focussed on his role for the team and at the club.

“His performances have remained consistency good and that is why he is being spoken about as the next one of the conveyor belt if you like. His performances have been no different and I think his form has improved from where he was this time this year. He has grown into the role and embraced the extra responsibility we have placed on him.

“He is playing well every week for us and continues to reach the high standard we set hi, He doesn’t tend to feel pressure and just gets on with it. He enjoys his football here. He enjoys playing for Crewe and captaining the club.

He added: “He is relaxed and we are relaxed and when the time is right then I’m sure he will move on to bigger and better things.”
