Assistant manager pleased with display in win at Sheffield

Neil Baker says he was greatly encouraged by the display of his Under-21 side after they bounced back in tremendous fashion to win 2-0 at Sheffield United yesterday afternoon. Goals from Ryan Colclough and AJ Leitch-Smith sealed a win in the Division Two of the newly reformed Elite Player Performance League.

Bakes who took the team to Yorkshire was pleased with the overall performance and individuals such as Ryan and AJ and defender Mark Ellis.

Neil told the club’s official web-site: “I was pleased with the performance yesterday, it was a lot better. We always like to see our younger players play and although it was a disappointing display against Northwich last week, they responded well.

“I was satisfied with the performance and that is what you get with young players they can be very up and down. They, like everyone else are striving for that consistency.

“It isn’t a question of them responding because they shouldn’t have to respond in the first place. They have to play as if their future relies on it more. We have spelt it out to them and hopefully that will take in on board.

He added: “These games give them a chance to impress and it was good to see Ryan play his second part of a game in a few days and score his second goal and AJ got 90 minutes. Mark Ellis also played and his attitude was first class.”
