Still Looking For Combination

Boss says those who get in there and scoring goals will stay in

Steve Davis says he is still looking for a clinical forward line that will take Crewe Alexandra closer to the top places in League One table. The Alex boss was bitterly disappointed with the lack of creative edge against Hartlepool United in Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat. He gave most of his forward options a chance to stake their claim, either when starting with them or by bringing them off from the bench, but our lack of genuine chances was a worry.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We didn’t a lot at Hartlepool and that was disappointing. I tried to change it with the substitutes to give us more of a goal threat up there, but even that didn’t have the desire effect.

“We didn’t create enough chances and didn’t get in behind them enough. We have tried different players, in different positions and in different systems to make us more of a threat.

“At Hartlepool, we were slow to get bodies in the box and have those forwards with a real desire to get in there and get a goal. The forward players have to realise that they are in the team to score goals and create chances.  They aren’t going to get many if they not in the box and having shots.

“There was a whole host of things to look at after Hartlepool and making us more of threat in the final third is one of them.”
