Steve Davis sasy there are real positives to take from Bournemouth performance
Steve Davis was pleased with his team’s fine performance against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth on Tuesday evening and felt that the display didn’t warrant a 2-1 defeat. The Alex boss has told his players to bounce back by seeing off Coventry City in the second leg of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Crewe take a 3-0 lead into the second leg but Davis and his players know it remains a challenge to reach Wembley for a second time in a year.
Davis will be looking for that consistency in the decisive run-in and is hoping that good performances and results go hand-in-hand. The Alex have not fixture this weekend due to Brentford’s FA Cup replay with Chelsea.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I thought the players worked really hard on Tuesday and deserved to get something from the game. They at least deserved a draw, if not more. The decision to award a penalty for nothing changed the game.
“Our performance deserved a lot more because I felt we put on a good show against the top team in the division.
“Sometimes we haven’t played as well as that and won the game. That has certainly been the case at home where we haven’t played well in certain games, but have won 1-0 and got the result. As a manager you want the performance and result to go together.
The Alex boss added: “It is a good sign when you don’t play well and win, but frustrating when you are not rewarded for a good performance and that was the case on Tuesday night.”
