Run Will Test Our Squad

22 February 2013

Steve Davis on the club's busy end to the season

Steve Davis says the club’s final two months of the season is really going to test his squad’s resolve. Davis is preparing his squad for 9 games in 22 days, which includes some Under-21 fixtures that have to be fulfilled as part of the Elite Player Performance season. The manager knows it will test his numbers to the limit as Crewe try to remain in the play-off race and bring home the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in April.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I have looked at the calendar and we have 9 games in 22 days. That includes some Under-21 fixtures that we have to fulfil. It is going to be a busy time for the squad and the team.

April and that means it will be a busy run-in.th“The fixtures are coming thick and fast and it will be a question of getting the balance right. We have to re-arrange the Brentford and Swindon’s games because of the Final on 7

“We will probably look at things game-to-game and try and make sure that the players are not carrying knocks into games. We will be looking to freshen things up and monitor the players accordingly.

“We have lost some ground in the league, because of a couple of postponed games and our involvement in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Our priority is to get to 50 points as quickly as possible and then if I feel that a push is out of reach I would look at giving some of the younger ones a chance.

He added: “I’ve told the players we have to keep pushing in the league and see where that takes us. If we are going to go on a sustained run then we have to do it now.”
