"It's Far From Over"

Phillips says game-on in second leg as Coventry are a top drawer side

Last night’s Man-of-the-Match, Steve Phillips was very impressed with Coventry City’s performance and says that the job of reaching a Wembley Final is far from done with a second leg still to come on at Gresty Road on February 20th. A ruthless second half display at the Ricoh Arena means Crewe have a healthy 3-0 lead to take into the second leg, but Phillips says no-one in the Alex dressing room will be taking anything for granted.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It was a great result and a very performance from us. The game plan worked very well against what I thought was a top drawer Coventry side. I thought they were just as outstanding as us on the night and I was kept busy.

“Coventry are a super club with a super stadium and their fans were terrific on the night. We had 1,500 and let me tell you could hear our fans as well. That is no mean feat in a crowd of 30,000 plus. They got behind us and I thought they were terrific for us.

“It was one of the best atmosphere’s I’ve ever played in. when they sang their own song, it was so loud and that noise can inspire you. It all depends on your character.

“It was a good night for us but this tie is far from over. We have a tough game coming up against them again because they are a good side. We are a good side as well and really dug in when we had to.

“Now we are 90 minutes away from another trip to Wembley and it would be nice to have thousands of Crewe behind us for the second leg when it comes round to it. Can we make as much noise as they did for them at our ground?

“We need the fans to come and get behind us and if they do then it would help us massively.”
