Could See A Different Coventry

22 February 2013

Boss says his and the Sky Blues will be approaching the game differently

Steve Davis expects a ‘different’ Coventry City to line-up against his Alex side at the Ricoh Arena. Not so much in terms of personnel, but in their approach to the game. Lee Carsley’s side won 2-0 at Gresty Road on Wednesday evening and had to approach the game in a strange way after losing the first-leg of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy 3-0. On one hand, they had to remain cautious at the back and take no chances, but also be expansive enough to go in search of three goals.

It made for an intriguing encounter with Coventry scoring twice in injury time to win the game but exit the competition after a 3-2 defeat on aggregate.

Steve told the club’s official web-site:  “We could see a different approach from Coventry tomorrow to that from Wednesday, only because of the situation.

“They had to approach Wednesday’s game differently because they were chasing three goals. They couldn’t take too many risks at the back and not give too many chances away. They cleared their lines and didn’t try to play out.

“I’m sure at their own ground, in front of their own supporters, Lee will want them to play and entertain a bit more. We will be the same we had to approach the game a bit differently as well because it was an unusual situation to be in.

“They are in a good position in the league and so we are, so it should be another good game.”
