Wolves Link Was Flattering

Steve on summer link to his boyhood club

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he was ‘flattered’ to be linked with the Wolverhampton Wanderers job in the summer, but says that is all in the past and that he has a job to fulfil at Crewe Alexandra.

Davis used the summer rumours about him possibly moving to Molineux as a great learning experience, but he has always been totally focussed on getting Crewe out of the bottom four and up the League One table. He has never been one to get carried away with things or speculation.

Steve, who was a boyhood Wolves fan said: “It was flattering to be linked with the Wolves job but I was one of a number. It was a good experience at the time, but it is gone and I quickly moved on from it because my focus was always on Crewe.

“I knew I had an exciting and fulfilling job here. I love it at Crewe. I love coming in every day. I have a great staff to work with and some talented players and we have a job to do because I want us to establish ourselves in this division and then look to the next level.

“As I’ve said it was nice to be linked with the Wolves job and to be thought of that way because it meant we had been successful at Crewe. Any manager, who had won a promotion and a trophy in 18 months, would have been noticed and it means we were going in the right direction.

“We will go to Molineux as underdogs on Boxing Day, but if we can get a positive result and a positive performance then it could give us a massive lift. All I want for Christmas is the three points and then hopefully three more at Colchester.

Steve added: “We will be going there with a lot of restored confidence and although it will be a challenge it is one we are looking forward to.”
