Matt Tootle says Crewe need to improve in the second half of the season or fear being involved in a relegation scrap
Crewe Alexandra’s most consistent player of the season Matt Tootle says he is looking forward to turning our season around in the second half of the campaign. The Alex ended a run of nine games without a win with a super 1-0 win over Crawley Town with ten men in our latest outing and Tootle admits it was vital that we managed to get those three points before a two-week break.
Crewe’s next game sees them travel to Northampton Town to face Coventry City and Tootle says that our revival has to continue going into the Christmas and New Year period.
The current left-back, told Crewe Alex Player: “It was nice to get a positive result before we signed off for two weeks. It makes such a difference to get that win and the lads have been upbeat for a while.
“It was important to get those three points and in the manner in which we got them, playing for a long period with ten men, made it even better for everyone.
“Now we have got to show some good form. If we can two or three wins over Christmas then we could go into mid-table and that is our aim. That is what we need to do. We have got to do a lot better in the second half of the season.
“Hopefully, we can get some good results over Christmas and put our first half of the season behind us. If we repeat that points tally over the second half of the season it wouldn’t be enough to see us safe, so we know we have to improve. We have got to get going now and pick up points on a regular basis and I think there are good signs.”
