Davis praise for his hard working battlers

Steve Davis says his players showed that real fighting spirit to come through a tricky afternoon against Crawley Town. Crewe won 1-0 thanks to a header from Chuks Aneke with ten minutes remaining after being forced to play with ten men following a controversial red card for Vadaine Oliver. The Alex striker was wrongly sent-off for a ‘dive’ after being caught by defender Dannie Bulman inside the penalty area.

Davis was delighted with the three points and his players’ hard working display.

The Alex told crewealex.net: “The players kept fighting and showed that desire to get something from the game. We had to hang on at times and had some scary moments but they worked hard with ten men after Vadaine was sent-off.

“When that happens and you go down to ten men for such a long period of time, you just hope that they have the energy and enough about them to go about it. They did that and it was a great result, especially when you consider that we have had a loss of confidence because of the run we have been on.

He added: “I think the fans are seeing a different group of players. They have shown against the Vale, Carlisle and Crawley that they are prepared to roll their sleeves up and work hard for the cause.”
