Steve on Mathias' contract extension
Steve Davis has told the official web-site of his delight in securing Mathias Pogba for another year. Although the Guinean International has missed the entire campaign so far after sustaining a serious knee injury against Manchester United in pre-season, the club did not hesitate to activate an extension in Pogba’s contract last week.
The club have extended the striker’s contract until the summer of 2015 and Davis says it is important to get Pogba back and playing football again after such a long lay-off.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We had an extra year option with Pogs and although he hasn’t played for us this season, we made the decision to extend it. It is the right thing to do and it will be great to get him back with us and playing in the second half of the season.
“I know it is a bit of a footballing cliché but it really will be like having a new signing. I think it is great to have him here and then with the extra year as well, he will only get better and improve.
“I am sure he wants that security as well and how we have to work hard to get him back where he was before the injury.”
Pobga topped the Crewe scoring charts last season with 16 goals but missed the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy after aggravating his thigh just days before the Wembley final against Preston North End.
