Great Experience For Ben

Gaffer says young goalkeeper has potential to become top keeper for us

Steve Davis says that young Ben Garratt can develop into a ‘top goalkeeper’ for the club. The 19-year-old stopper has retained his place after being selected ahead of the more experienced Alan Martin following an untimely injury to the on-loan Neil Etheridge.

Garratt made a stunning one handed save to keep out a Sanchez Watt header at Colchester United on Sunday to preserve a vital 2-1 win.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Ben didn’t have too much to do at Colchester but when he did he came up with the goods. He made a terrific save with has left hand to keep Watt’s header out and his handling and kicking was good.

“He is still young. He is only 19 and we have thrown him at the deep end a bit. He will continue to improve and it will be a great experience for him to be playing regularly in League One.

“I think only the young lad at Sheffield United is of a similar age playing at this level on a regular basis, so it will be a brilliant learning curve for him. I am sure he has the potential to become a top goalkeeper for us in the future.”
