Crewe target three points to bring Shrews back into it

Steve Davis is hoping his side can move to within two points of this weekend’s opponents with a home victory over Shrewsbury Town. Crewe host Graham Turner's Shrews in their final game before Christmas and the Alex boss is looking for his side to build on the results and performances achieved against Crawley and Coventry City.

in League One and Davis is hoping that his players can decrease the gap on the clubs ahead of them during the busy festive period. thTurner’s Shrews are currently 15

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I like to set the players targets and we have found it difficult to match that standard, so I’ve lowered the expectations a little and been more realistic, but what I have said to them is that they have to keep in touch and that means taking points from those who are in and around us in the table.

so that shows how tight and close it is. If we can have a good Christmas then we could get ourselves out of it and in a much better position.th“If we can defeat Shrewsbury on Saturday then we would be within two points of them and they are 15

“Shrewsbury are similar to us. They have been promoted and are trying to establish themselves in the division. We have four games in a short space of time and we are capable of picking up a good hail of points and build on what we have been able to do against Crawley and Coventry.

The boss added: “It is a local derby of sorts against Shrewsbury and it will a good marker of where we are now. We have improved and we want to close that gap as soon as we can because at the moment it is still very close.”
