Aneke Holds The Key

In-form Chuks can continue to be match winner

An in-form Chuks Aneke will be crucial to our chances of moving out of the bottom four over the festive period, says Alex boss Steve Davis. The on-loan Arsenal youngster has been back to his best of late, scoring in successive games and also creating Tom Hitchcock’s opener at the Sixfields Stadium on Saturday.

With striker Vadaine Oliver back from suspension this weekend, Aneke will be hoping to retain his place for the visit of Shrewsbury. Steve Davis has admitted this week that he has a choice to make as competition for places increases.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Chuks has been working as hard as ever and it is good to see him get the rewards for his efforts. He always works hard, day-in day-out and wants to improve as a player. His attitude is always spot on.

“I think you have to play him up the front somewhere because he is a threat with his shooting ability and creativity. I don’t think you can play him anywhere else because of what he can offer you in the final third of the pitch.

“He is scoring and creating goal recently and that is all we can ask of him. If we can get him scoring every two games or in ever successive games then that would be a fantastic return for us.

“We are now seeing the old Chuks again and he has been crucial to us and what we are looking to do.”
