A Spur For Chuks

Davis hoping Chuks winning goal will see improvement in on-loan Arsenal star

Steve Davis is hoping Chuks Aneke’s winning goal against Crawley Town on Saturday will be the spur for the on-loan Arsenal starlet to recapture his form of last season.

Aneke, who can play in various positions, is now the club’s joint leading scorer with three goals this season, but he has found himself in-and-out of the starting XI during the campaign.

Aneke followed up his winning header with an assured performance for the club’s Under-21s against Leeds United on Monday. The game ended 0-0 but the coaching staff were pleased with his effort and ability in possession.

Boss Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “Chuks works very hard at his game and did well for the Under 21’s against Leeds on Monday.

“Neil (Baker) and James (Collins) said he did well on the ball. His goal has given him a lift and there is an extra step in his stride.

“You can see the confidence a goal can bring and I want him to get in there and get headers, he pulled off his man lovely and stretched for a good diving header. I hope he can do more of that.

He added: “That was a diving header on Saturday and I want him to get the high ones as well.”
