Steve Davis previews a tough away day at Northampton against the Sky Blues

Steve Davis expects to see Coventry City’s deadly partnership of Leon Clarke and Callum Wilson back in action against his Crewe Alexandra side this weekend. Both Clarke and Wilson missed the club’s FA Cup tie at Hartlepool United last weekend but their captain Carl Baker did score in a 1-1 draw at Victoria Park.

Crewe scouts attended the game and Davis is expecting another tough game against the Sky Blues. The two clubs know each other well enough after four fixtures last season in League One and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Crewe managed to win three of the four but Davis says that won’t count or anything this season.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We watched Coventry at Hartlepool last weekend and without their two main strikers they played a different system. I am sure Clarke and Wilson will be back to lead the line against us.

“We know all about Leon from last season and Callum has come into the side and don’t really well. They are more than a handful and we will have to defend very well to contain them. They have a hatful of goals and if your strikers are in double figures at this stage of the season then you always have a chance.

“They are the not the only players they have though and I have always liked Baker. They have some very good young players and the experienced pros help them. They are very competitive and are in the same mould as their manager (Steven Pressley). They work hard or each other.

“We did face them four times last season but it is different teams at a different ground now, so that doesn’t count for too much, although the players will have confidence from the fact that we have beaten one of the biggest clubs in our league before. “
