Vadaine Pushes His Claim

12 August 2013

Oliver's presence may see him handed first start

Steve Davis is after more of a threat from his front four and could use the physical presence of summer signing Vadaine Oliver to improve our chances ratio. Oliver has been used a substitute in the opening three games of the season, after overcoming a groin strain obtained in the second phase of the pre-season.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Lincoln City man is pushing for his first start after a promising performance against MK Dons. It was his clever round-the-corner pass that created our best chance of the afternoon with Ryan Colclough foiled by David Martin late on.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I didn’t think we were too much of a threat in the first half on Saturday. We didn’t force their goalkeeper into a save.

“That did improve in the second half and I thought that created some chances, especially when Vadaine came on. He gave us a different dimension with his physical presence and aerial ability. He won a number of flick on’s and he gave them something different to think about.

“With Pogba’s physical presence, we may utilise Vadaine more. He can play through the middle and has played in a three before in one of the wide areas, so it is something to think about this week. “
