Baker admits that two places still being discussed
Neil Baker has admitted to Crewe Alex Player that there are still one or two places up for grabs for the opening day of the season against Rotherham United. With Mathias Pogba struggling to be fit to face the Millers due to the knee injury he sustained against a Manchester United XI on Monday night, another place could have materialised for someone.
Baker admits that that the coaching staff is still deliberating over team selection. “There are some decisions to be made. We are still deliberating over one or two places. We are more or less there with it.
“We want to get it right and today and tomorrow will be used to make sure we get it right. We will be planning for Rotherham and the team will take shape. It is an exciting time because although the pre-season is a necessity it doesn’t mean anything in terms of results.
“The players use it more to get fit than anything and I think the coaches and supporters take more interest in it. The results are not important in pre-season. We don’t worry about that. What does concern us that we have scored just one goal at home and that came from Harry at a corner.
“We have faced some tough opponents at home, so you can’t read too much into it. The real test starts Saturday.”
