Steve On Trial Duo

Boss on Duke and Giverin

Steve Davis says he is wants more time to assess the potential of the on trial Luke Giverin and Nathan Ellington. Both players are still training with the club and represented us in a behind closed friendly against Burnley on Tuesday.

Ellington has been a consistent goalscorer for the club’s Under-21 and Giverin has also featured for James Collins’ development squad as the try to secure a contract at the club.

Steve admits to crewealex.net that he is giving Ellington and Giverin more time to prove their fitness levels before he makes a final decision.

The Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “I haven’t made a final decision on both of the two of them yet. I’ve spoken to Luke’s agent and told him that we won’t be offering him a contract at the moment but we are still happy for him to come and train with us.

I have got to fair on that. “I have to give Luke a chance because he has had one or two injuries since he came here and if we are to see he best of him then we have to see him fully match fit. I don’t think we have seen the best of him yet.

“He is a good lad and we will give him some more time and he is happy to come in.

“It’s much the same with Nathan. I have told him that even at 32, and after all he has achieved in the game, he has got to prove himself. To be fair to him he has worked hard on his fitness and got some weight off.

“Nathan is a finisher and he has scored goals for the Under-21s and reserves. He has shown a great effort and to be fair to him we will make a decision on him sooner rather than later.”
