Alex boss gives his reaction to crewealex.net after win over Tranmere
Steve Davis was pleased to secure the club's first three points of the season after a tough encounter against the ten-men of Tranmere Rovers. Two goals from Ryan Colclough secured the points for the Railwaymen after they had full-back Danny Holmes sent-off for two bookable offences.Following the 2-1 win, the Alex boss told crewealex.net: "We managed to see it through and I am pleased to have got the three points. I was pleased with the performance in the first half and I thought we controlled the majority of the game even before the red card. I thought our front four were lively and caused them problems. The wingers were good. We did a lot of work on that in the week, having them really wide and getting those one v ones more often. They caused a lot of problems.
"I also thought we were solid at the back as well and were coping well with the crosses going into the box. We didn't to as well in the second half and it went a bit scrappy. We are not coping well with the end of games as well I would like when it comes to holding onto a lead but that comes with experience. That can happen with young players and we do have a relatively young back four. You are not only teaching them technique but also teaching them to play the game. They are still learning.
"What can happen when a man is sent off it can change the game in another way. They worked harder to restrict us and we couldn't find the tempo we played at in the first half, as much as in the second half. We didn't move the ball around fast enough. When that happens you have to remain strong, organised and work on our concentration levels.
On match winner Ryan Colclough, Steve said: "Ryan was good and he worked their full-back throughout. He was a threat and got shots off. He made things difficult for their defenders and he took his goals really well. It will do him the world of good to get those goals and today proved it. We want him to create and score goals and he has shown he can do it."
