Crewe to without striker after he undergoes knee operation

Crewe Alexandra is expected to be without their leading goalscorer from last season for at least three months. Mathias Pogba has undergone surgery on his knee after the injury he sustained against Manchester United in pre-season was deemed 'worse than first feared.' Pogba suffered medial ligament and cartilage damage and has undergone the operation to tidy up the trauma.

due to a thigh strain. stPogba hit 16 goals in all competitions last season even though his season ended on April 1

Manager Steve Davis says it is a huge blow to lose his leading marksman for that length of time: “Pogba is out and the reason we sent him for the scan was to have a look at the damage he received in the challenge. It is worse than we thought and he needed one or two things tided up.

“Having the operation was the right thing to do because we needed the surgeon to have a look at what the trauma has caused.

It would be the same if Robin Van Persie was out injured at United.  “It doesn’t matter at whatever level you play at, it is always a huge blow to lose your leading goalscorer.

“We are all gutted for Mathias and it will be difficult to fill in what we gave us with the power, strength and the goals we got for us.”
