Fit Vadaine offers Steve other attacking option

Summer signing Vadaine Oliver has done his chances of a start no harm with his performances from the bench in the club’s opening three matches of the season. Oliver certainly made a difference against the MK Dons last weekend and boss Steve Davis was delighted with the former Lincoln City’s work rate.

Oliver was a bit unfortunate to miss the last two weeks of the pre-season work which set him back a bit but the former Sheffield Wednesday trainee is pushing for a place in Steve Davis’ starting eleven. The boss may continue to keep faith with his strikers AJ Leitch-Smith and Max Clayton, especially with the return of winger Byron Moore and could again use Oliver as an impact substitute against Tranmere.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Vadaine does give us something different. He is more of a target man and he is competitive. He occupies centre-halves and they know they are in a game up against him.

“He is also quick and can run in behind and get on the end of crosses, so he is another option for us. He did well off the bench last weekend and he will be involved somewhere against Tranmere.

“We have a few options now and it is good to have players pushing the others to try and get into the team.”
