Alex boss wants his side to become more compact and more difficult to break down

Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra side need to be harder to beat after slipping to their second league defeat of the season at table toppers Leyton Orient on Saturday. Although still early days, Davis says his side have to be more compact away from home and help each other out collectively if we are to pick up results.

Steve told crewealex.net: We need to be harder to beat because at certain times we can be fragile, especially away from home. We have made some mistakes and they have been punished and we have to be more compact and have better shape.

“That means defending better as a unit, as a collective. We are working hard to put it right and we have got to stay in the games and create chances. That doesn’t matter if we are the home side or away because every game will be tough in this league.

“The players know they have not started the season as well as they would have liked but they will improve and get better. We haven’t peaked yet and the players are frustrated with themselves because they know they should have more points than they have.”
