Davis says those out of the team have to push harder for recalls
Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he wants his fringe players to show that they are consistent enough to pressurise those ahead of them in the pecking order. A strong Crewe Alexandra reserve side were beaten 4-2 by Burnley on Monday afternoon, and Davis says those type of games is the perfect chances to those out of the team to emerge as contenders for a first-team place.
The Crewe Alexandra boss says that every reserve friendly, Under-21 match and training session is a chance for them to impress him.
Steve told crewealex.net: “The good thing about organising a reserve friendly is that we are allowed to play over aged players. In the Under-21s that is restricted to three Under-21s plus the goalkeeper. We needed some players to get some game-time and minutes on the pitch.
“I want the players on the fringes of the first-team to stand out in those games. Every training session is a chance for them to impress. I want to see who is out there to see if they are better than what we have in the first team at the moment.
He added: “I want them to show me that they deserve to be in the team and give me a hard decision to make every week.”
