Alex boss says Steve Evans' will to win always makes his side competitive

Steve Davis is hoping that his Crewe Alexandra side can make a positive start to the new season, as traditionally we tend to start slowly. The Alex host Steve Evans’ newly promoted Rotherham United side to the Alexandra Stadium for the first game of the season tomorrow and Davis knows that his side will have to play well to get a result.

Ahead of the big kick-off, Steve told crewealex.net: “Over recent history, Crewe Alexandra don’t tend to start the season to well and that is a trend we will be trying to put right.

“Rotherham have a number of new players and as we have found this summer it does take a bit of time to blend as a team, but they are always a tough opponent and they will be even tougher with Steve (Evans) in charge.

“They will be a typical Steve Evans side, big, strong and physical who have players who can play. It will extremely tough and we will have to be really focussed from the start.

“Steve has that real will to win football matches and that rubs off on his teams. He is in the same mould as me in that he is a winner and he wants to win every game.”
