Davis backing teenager to add goals to his game
Crewe Alexandra’s talented young winger Ryan Colclough just needs a goal to compliment his promising early performances. Colclough was arguably the club’s best performer at the MK Dons on Saturday and he was certainly our most potent threat in the final third of the pitch.
His late chance was tipped over by David Martin and the Alex boss, Steve Davis, was left fuming after Colclough was not awarded a penalty kick after he was clattered by the MK Dons goalkeeper.
Steve has been pleased with the progress being made by the Academy graduate: “Ryan has been a potent threat and our best player in an attacking sense. He has developed into a real threat and created some chances. He has also been tripped twice for penalties but he hasn’t scored himself yet.
“He is creating chances for others, which is a major part of his game and he will eventually score goals. I think he just needs to get that first one. He has been unfortunate to see the goalkeeper make some saves and has missed the targets with others.
“That first goal of the season will be a real boost to him. It will give him that extra confidence in front of goal and he could go on a run then like Nick (Powell) did for us.”
