Boss After Clean-Sheets

21 August 2013

Steve wants solid foundation to take us forward

Steve Davis is looking for his team to start keeping clean-sheets after conceding a goal in each of our four games so far. Crewe have shipped eight goals so far, but have certainly tightened up at set-plays and were a bit unfortunate to concede late on against Tranmere after losing our shape a bit in the closing stages as we went in search of more goals.

The Crewe Alexandra boss told the club’s official web-site: “I was disappointed not to keep a clean sheet against Tranmere and I was unhappy with their goal because we gave the ball away and got punished on the break.

“It was a poor goal to concede from our point of view and it came about because we lost our shape a bit in the closing stages of the game. The players were on the front foot looking for those third and fourth goals and it cost us a clean-sheet.

“We have conceded too many goals for my liking. Most of them have come from set-plays in those two opening games but we have been better defensively since then. I want to be getting results on the back of some clean-sheets.

“That is our next target and it will be interesting to see how we defend against Leyton Orient on Saturday, because they are the in-form team in our division.

“I want us to be solid and then create and score from those chances. Those goals need to come from all areas of the pitch and the midfielders and defenders have to chip in as well. I’m sure we will get there because we will improve. “
