Won't Let Season Fizzle Out

5 April 2013

Steve says Alex must remain competitive in final month

Alex boss Steve Davis says he won’t let our season fizzle out regardless of the outcome in Sunday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final. Crewe will be looking their first major cup final when they take on Southend at Wembley but Davis has not ruled out making a repeat appearance in May in the play-offs.

The Alex boss appreciates it remains a long shot but he will be demanding that his players continue to fight right to the death.

Before departing for the capital, Steve said: “We have a final and a trip to Wembley to look forward to on Sunday but that won’t be the end of the season win or lose.

“I want us to remain positive until the final minute against Walsall on the final day of the season. I want us to be competitive and see how far that can take us. We are not mathematically out of the play-off race yet and although it is a tough ask, we can still sneak into the top six.

“After the final is over, we will keep going in the League and see how high we can finish. There is still plenty of football to be played yet and points to be had, so I won’t let our season fizzle out.

“There are some exciting games left and we can have a big say on the promotion race with the games we have in hand. I want us to end on a high and go into next season in a positive frame of mind.”
