Boss says summer signing Michael West can make a bigger impact next season

Steve Davis says an improving Michael West has shown enough in the second half of this season to suggest that he could play more of a role next season. West has needed a bit of time to adjust to full-time football after joining from Ebbsfleet United last summer but he has grown into a relatively new central role and shown real promise for the development squad and when selected for the first team.

With Abdul Osman suspended and Luke Murphy struggling for fitness after only just recovering from a groin injury, West will be hoping to be involved against Swindon tonight.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “I thought Michael did fine on Saturday, especially in the first half. He can improve on his defending and we are on to him about that but he showed some nice touches and passed the ball well.

“We did well for 60 minutes but tired and didn’t influence the game as well as he was doing. He knows he has to keep that standard of performance up for 90 minutes.

“Westy showed that he could make a decent impact for us next season and this season would have been a valuable learning curve for him after he made that step up from part-time football. “
