Davis says squad will have learnt from first season in League One

Steve Davis is hoping his young Crewe Alexandra side will continue to grow with experience after showing that they can compete in League One. The Railwaymen were many people’s favourites for the drop last summer, but have adjusted well to the demands of a higher division and rounded off a successful season with silverware in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Davis has publicly praised his players for the progress they have made, guaranteeing safety with games in hand and winning that first major final, but he wants them to finish on a high with more good performances and hopefully points to take us past the 60 mark.

The Alex boss says that consistency remains the key to success and says his players will have learnt from this debut season in the higher division.

“Consistency is the most important thing for any successful team.  It is being able to churn out a result even when you are not playing well, ‘says Steve.

“That can come from experience and knowing the league and as we are a relatively young squad, we should progress and become better at having that consistency.

He added: “We should be better for the experience of this year. We have shown that on our day we can be a match for anyone but we have to become more consistent and win more ugly at times.”
