Davis has great respect for our former striker Clayton Donaldson
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he is looking forward to meeting up with Clayton Donaldson again this evening but only if he is kept quiet by his defence! Crewe will be welcoming back one of their most popular players of the last few seasons and Davis knows all about the threat the Bradford-born striker poses.
Donaldson joined the Bees during the summer of 2011 after finishing as the Golden Boot winner in Npower League 2 after hitting an impressive 29 goals. Donaldson moved up a division with the Bees and has developed into one of the most prolific strikers at this level, scoring 21 goals in all competitions.
Steve told crewealex.net: “I like Clayton as a player and a person. He was great to work with and a great lad around the place as well. He is a really nice guy and I look forward to seeing him again tonight and having a chat.
“I will even have a conversation with him afterwards as long as we keep him quiet and he doesn’t score any goals!
“Clayton has terrific pace and become even more consistent with his finishing. He had a great season with us before he left and he had a few offers, but he chose to move south for the first time and once he settled in, the goals started to come again. He has got 20 goals again and that shows the quality he has.
Steve added: “He did really well for Crewe and was a popular guy and I’m sure he will get a good reception from the supporters.”
