Spurs youngster set to start if Mellor is deemed unfit
Crewe Alexandra’s on-loan full-back Kevin Stewart is set to start again this evening, if Kelvin Mellor fails to overcome a toe injury. Mellor had to endure a pre-match and half-time injection to get through the game against Southend United in Sunday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final.
Mellor didn’t train yesterday after his toe swelled up after the final and the defender also had a car accident. He was obviously shaken but thankfully unscathed.
Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “Kelvin had to have an injection on Sunday to get through the game and we are also mindful of the fact that he was involved in a car accident as well.
“If he isn’t right to play then Kevin (Stewart) will play. That is what we brought him into the club for and he had a great debut for us against Preston.
“I had a conversation with him about picking him at Wembley. I just went with the players that had gone through the rounds and got us there. That was the fairest way and we had a chat about that.
“We have Toots who can switch to right-back and Ollie Turton can slot in there as well so we have enough cover at full-back, especially as Harry (Davis) has played at left back as well, although I am a bit reluctant to do that.”
