George is looking to start after making his historical late appearance at Wembley
George Ray is hoping to be given a start before the end of the season after making his historical debut at Wembley Stadium. Ray came on in the final minutes of Crewe’s 2-0 win over Southend United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final as a tactical switch to deal with Southend’s set pieces and long throws into our box.
Ray told Crewe Alex Player: “It was just quality for me to be involved at Wembley. I didn’t even know I was on the bench in the morning, so to get on the bench was good enough. When Steve (Davis) gave me the call to say I was going on I was buzzing but there were a few nerves as well. It was incredible to come on at Wembley and have 40,000 fans there.
“Things are looking up for me now and now I am aiming to get a start. Hopefully, I can make a few starts before the end of the season. That is my next aim and it would be a great experience to play.
“There are some great fixtures coming up and I want to be involved as much as I can. I have worked hard and I think I am ready to make that next step and start a game.”
