Mellor:"A Dream Come True"

Defender aiming to round off a near perfect year

Versatile defender Kelvin Mellor is hoping to retain his shirt for Sunday’s shirt and secure a second appearance at Wembley Stadium in 11 months! It is some transformation for the Crewe-born Mellor, who was working in a  Petrol Station at 16 before securing a dream move into the professional game with his local club.

Kelvin told crewealex.net: “It is every player’s dream to play at Wembley. When you watch cup finals and International games and see the top players playing there, you just dream about playing there, so to get there twice is unbelievable really.

“The season started slowly for me, but I managed to pick myself up and get back into the team and when you do that you have to play well enough to make sure the manager has to pick you again the following week.

“You have to give your all here, in every training session because there are good players here ready to take your place. It keeps performances high.

“Southend are a tough team and we won’t be taking anything for granted that’s for sure. Perhaps they will be after a bit of revenge after what happened in the play-offs last season and anything can happen. Football is like that and we will have to perform to get the result.

“You can never predict what is going to happen but we execute the game plan and play our football then of course, we are confident we will do it because we have match winners throughout the team.

“If we can win at Wembley again and make the fans happy again then it will be a great year and a fantastic accomplishment. “
