Defender back in contention for Doncaster visit
Wembley hero Kelvin Mellor could return to the Crewe Alexandra starting line-up for the visit of Doncaster Rovers tomorrow after overcoming a toe infection. Mellor needed a pre-match and half-time injection to get through the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final and an unfortunate car accident following that hardly helped his preparation for Wednesday’s home game against Doncaster Rovers.
Mellor missed the 2-0 home defeat by the Bees, but has successfully returned to training and declared himself available for selection for tomorrow’s game.
Goalkeeper Alan Martin is also set to start with Steve Phillips ruled out with a dead leg and the likes of Michael West, Ollie Turton, Nathan Ellington, Chuks Aneke and George Ray could also come into the occasion after a difficult run of fixtures and travelling.
Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Kelvin is fine. He is okay now and missing the game on Wednesday has helped in his recovery. He had an infection in his toe but he has got it right and has come back into training.
“Mark Ellis has a sore ankle, but he will be okay as well. He is one of those players who puts his body on the line and will play through the pain barrier. He should be fine.”
